Synopsis
This is a real Irish bar and it would help to speak
Gaelic here. The Pour House is one of the few pubs that you
really feel comfortable in. It could be the music or the setting
but I think it's the 20 ounce pints.
Bar Hours
Monday 4:00 PM to 2:00 AM. Tuesday to Friday 11:00 AM
to 2:00 PM. Saturday 4:00 PM to 2:00 AM. Closed Sunday.
Happy Hour
Drink specials between 5:00 PM & 7:00 PM.
Holiday Closing
I have no firm details on this but they closed on most
holidays since they are also closed in Sunday.
Beer, Wines & Spirits
Five beers on tap featuring Guinness Stout, Harp,
Murphy's Stout & Amber. IC Light is on too. Murphy's Amber is
the first beer named Amber that I really enjoyed. The Pour House
has about 15 bottled beers as well. True to form they have about
every Irish Whiskey on the market in this country. Some of the
old whiskey bottles were made into bar lamps with nice round
globes.
The draft beers are served in proper 20 ounce pint glasses. And they are served Irish cold. Only the English serve beer warm. The Irish serve beer deliciously cool but not at Arctic temperatures as I found out in my travels to both countries.
Food
They have a good Irish menu with daily specials. For
snacks they have 16 appetizers of which 15 are less than $4.00.
Try the Colcannon. It's mashed potatos with cabbage and onion for
$3.50. Yum!
Food Hours
As usual the kitchen closes about an hour or so before
the bar closes.
Entertainment
On any given day the music is playing taped Irish
music. This is entertainment in itself. On Tuesday, Friday and
Saturday and Irish folk singer starts at 9:00 PM (8:30 on
Friday). They will make feel like you're in Erin for sure. The
best entertainment is on Thursdays at 9:00 PM. This is Old Time
Music Session where people start wandering in and start playing.
Once these men and women start playing you will never want to
leave.
The Shamrock on the wall will always tell you how many days are left till the next St. Patrick's day. In Pittsburgh the parade is always the Saturday BEFORE the actual day. This is true too if the day is on a Friday. Confused? Just stop in the Pour House.
Cigar Smoking
Don't know. Had too much Guinness before I could ask.
Cash Problem?
PNC Bank has an ATM inside the pedestrian mall. The
mall starts on Broadway but the ATM is a short walk away.
Parking
Street parking has meters as well as the municipal lot
in the plaza. I do not think you need to feed the street meters
in the evening. When in doubt ask the staff.
Legal Notice
Any or all the stuff you just read may be wrong or
changed since my last visit. Things do happen and one can never
tell when this might turn into a pizza shop some day. If this
