Out of Order
The District
Sadler's Well Theater is in Finsbury on Rosebury Avenue to the north and Smithfield Market is on the southern end. Between them is a long walk that is off the path of most tourists. There is not much to do here at night but take your map during your walk.
The Pubs
The coordinates [123 A1] locates the area in the Geographer's AZ London Street Atlas, the small book. That is page 123 and grid A1.

This did not look like the "olde" style pub people expect to see. With a pool table inside it did not have a high comfort level. A preference would be the Lord Nelson across the street.

Open 07.00 - 22.00 Monday through Fridays. 08.00 - 12.00 Sat. At 07.00 you can get steak and real ale or porter for breakfast. Yes, you can have a pint at 0700. The menu looks like it came from an American diner, a great selection and large portions. The cook does his work behind the bar and the place smells great. A dining room is past the bar and smaller private rooms past that. This is different from most pubs.
The bar has the traditional look most people expect a London pub to have. The wall opposite the bar is usually reserved for drinking, either by standing or siting. Here they placed tables for eating since this pub has an emphasis for early breakfast and lunch for the working bloke. At the end of the bar you will find the cook. He may be hard to spot since he is hidden behind a gross of eggs set out for daily meals. As a waitress leads you past all this you enter a small room for breakfast at 07.00. This room is intimate in itself. Wood on the walls and a nice fireplace get you ready for a comforting meal. You will also see etched glass doors along a wall, which resemble a long closet. These hide the other smaller private rooms, which are also available. This sounds if the Fox and Anchor is a restaurant. It is not, I assure you.

This tied house has as many cask ales as it does nook and crannies. Just the
place to get away from it all. Well of you are going to hide out this pub will
keep you nourished and wet for as long as your charge card holds out. The head
brewer is Mr. Mark Slater and for a while brewed in my town, Pittsburgh, Pa.
Mark can attest to my love of English ale.

Ive not been to this pub (yet) but it should be past Pitfield Street. The Beer Shop on Pitfield St is in N1. Everything north of Old Street is in N1 and south is EC2. Now you know why so many Londoners drink.

Ye Olde Mitre (Free House) Holborn [141 H6]
Ely Court EC1 between Hatton Garden and Ely Place
Phone 020 7405-4751
Chancery Lane or Farringdon station
Closed on weekends. Near St. Etheldreda Church. Built by Bishop Goddrich in 1547 for his servants and rebuilt in 1772.
This is rather secluded and many other tourists may not know of it or may have trouble finding it. Look for the sign of the cross at the entrance way to Ely Court. If you enter Ely Place walk on the left sidewalk. The pub itself is small and has a room on either side of the bar. I have witnessed the bartender having to go outside to get from one room to the other. Most people have curio cabinets to display their objects d' art. The Mitre has a display case built around the tree the pub was built around. Getting here and drinking here can be most interesting.
