Synopsis
This bar and restaurant has a Caribbean theme to it. There is no sand on the
floor but alligator on a stick and the best black bean dip in the city.
Bar Hours
They open ever day at 11:30 AM and close late. Friday and Saturday closing
should be at 2:00 AM, the legal limit for PA. bars.
Happy Hour
Sometimes it's 4 to 6, others it's 5 to 7. Don't ask me to explain this or when
they change. During happy hour all drafts go for half off. See the notice on
the walls.
Holiday Closing
Most likely they will be open for most Holidays.
Beer, Wines & Spirits
They have 18 taps serving domestic, import and micro's. Kaya has a full range
of wines and spirits available along with a good bottle selection. The Mad Brew
tap is the Kaiser Pils from the Penn Brewery.
Tequilla
It is not well known to beer drinkers but this group of bars, Kaya and the Mad
Mex brothers, have a world class selection of this south of the border drink.
Food
Caribbean in nature. As I said, they have the best black bean dip you can get
and they make their own chips to go with them. This place is very interesting
for its food, which is not common for Pittsburgh.
Food Hours
Monday - Thursday 11:30 AM to 11:00 PM, Friday, Saturday & Sunday 11:30 AM to
midnight.
Entertainment
No entertainment here.
Cigar Smoking
No cigar smoking is permitted in the restaurant or at the bar. It is ok on the
sidewalk seating area.
Cash Problem?
The nearest ATM machine is the PNC Bank at the corner of Penn & 21st.
National City Bank has one at Wholey's on Penn Ave. at 17th.
Parking
Parking in the Strip may look bad but many free spots can be found. Try Penn
Avenue, which has no meters. The city has meters on Smallman and the side
streets. You will see a very long brick building across from Kaya. This is the
KLM produce building. Do not park in front of that building. They collect their
own money and you must move your car by 8:00 PM for the trucks.
Other Stuff
Kaya's sister pubs are the two Mad Mex restaurants. The one in the North Hills
has live music at night.
