My dad’s local when it was Tat Sparrows. Fat Heads was the first bar in town, that I know, that sells drafts to go (64oz Growlers). The bar has38 taps and one beer engine. One of the brews on their beer menu all the time was invented by an unknown customer. It comes to you as a blend of Rouge (William) Shakespear Stout and Dead (Jerry Garcia) Guy Ale and touches your lips as the Dead Poet. Could one of them be drinking at Fat Heads? Beer Union is their bottle shop and gift shop located on the second floor.

South Side Works information is just a tad further below.
Parking Note
Parking on the South Side could be tight. Meters on the streets are not enforced after 6PM but the 4 metered lots are enforced 24/7 by the Parking Authority. Don’t expect free off-street parking as non-metered lots are private. The spots and garages at the South Side Works are much the same.
Parking Lots on the South Side
There are four Parking Authority lots on the South Side. They have meters or a pay box but and they operated 24 hours a day and enforcement officers can come at any time.. Street parking is either free of metered but the meters are free after 6 PM. Here are the locations of the pay lots:
Lot 1: Corner of South 18th & E Carson Streets (Meters)
Lot 2: Corner of South 18th Street & Sidney Street (Pay Box)
Lot 3: E Carson St between South 12th & South 13th Streets (Meters)
Lot 4: E Carson Street between South 19th & South 20th Street (Meters)
Bank ATM Locations on the South Side
Citizen’s Bank inside the Giant Eagle at Wharton Square at South 20th & Wharton Street (Limited Hours).
First National Bank on E Carson St between South 17th & South 18th Streets (24hrs)
Iron & Glass Bank on E Carson St between South 11th & South 12th Streets (24hrs) in the parking lot
PNC Bank at E Carson & South 18th Street (24hrs) as well as a ATM inside the CoGo’s at South 10th & E Carson Streets (24hrs).
Pittsburgh Teacher’s Credit Union (no fee) at South 10th & Bingham St
I cannot guarantee that these may change at any time. Many places have private ATM’s but I do not list those.
The South Side Works
This is a new development that replaced the former Jones and Laughlin Steel Company (it was taken over by LTV Steel). Here one can find The Hot Metal Grill (the first to open here), Claddagh Irish Pub, the Cheese Cake Factory and soon the Hofbräuhaus. There are several pay parking garages (not listed above) and several banks with outdoor ATM’s (not listed above). The Works lie between East Carson Street and the Monongahela River and between the Hot Metal Grill (South 29th Street) and South 26th Street. Any updates will be noted in the listings above.
Other Notes:
The Tuscany Café at E Carson and South 15th is a coffee shop
with a liquor license. The South Side Steak shop at E Carson and South 20th
is applying for a liquor license (summer 2005) I have not listed them above nor
do I plan to list new places that may have a license but are not a traditional
bar. Whatever I do depends on my state of sobriety.
Beer Note
The pull-tab on a can of beer was developed by Alcoa and first used by Pittsburgh Brewing Co. (Iron City beer) in 1962. These two also came out with the Aluminum bottle. For more fun fact of Pittsburgh, see www.pittsburgh.about.com/cs/movies/a/filmed.htm
